Cut Chemist "Impeach The Precedent" (Mix)

In the midst of this week’s hectic midterm elections, beloved Jurassic 5 DJ, mix-master, producer, and solo artist Cut Chemist released an ultimate mix of songs that sample The Honey Drippers’ 1973 song, “Impeach the President.” The mix, cleverly titled Impeach The Precedent, rolls through 45 different songs within Hip-Hop that sample The Honey Drippers in various ways, be it taking the song’s drums, vocals, or lyrics. These are essential breaks. For many, the song’s lyrics may apply to the current Commander-in-Chief, just as they did during Richard M. Nixon’s time in office when it was first released: “Some people say that he’s guilty, Some people say ‘I don’t know’ / Some people say, give him a chance, Aw, some people say, wait till he’s convicted.” WhoSampled, a website that collects data on both songs that have been sampled and songs that use samples, cites 770 songs having sampled “Impeach the President,” from MC Shan’s “The Bridge” to The Notorious B.I.G.’s “Unbelievable” to Freddie Gibbs’ “One Mo’ Time.” This week, Cut Chemist mixed up 45 of those 770 tracks to lift the midterm voter’s spirit. Cut Chemist spins through the breaks of Audio Two’s “Top Billin’,” J. Cole’s “Wet Dreamz,” Nas’ “I Can,” and too many others over 45-minutes of history and scratching. If you did not notice the “45” is deliberate in a few ways, given the current President, as well as the 45th anniversary of the original sample source. - AFH. Also available via Bandcamp.
